Welcome to the Institute of Biostatistics and Informatics in Medicine and Ageing Research

At IBIMA, we combine biostatistical methodology, medical informatics, and bioinformatics research to address current challenges in medicine and ageing research.

Our mission is to support and advance medical research through data analysis, statistical consulting, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

A particular focus of our work is the analysis of biological and clinical data, the identification and evaluation of biomarkers, and the study of ageing processes, prevention, and health. In addition, we provide methodological expertise in biometry, statistics, and data interpretation to support research projects, clinical studies, and scientific publications.

On our website, you will find information about our research areas, publications, teaching activities, services, and current projects. We warmly invite students, doctoral researchers, scientists, and collaboration partners to explore our work and get in touch with us.

The Institute for Biostatistics and Informatics in Medicine and Aging Research welcomes Prof. Dr. Stephanie Roll as its new professor of biostatistics.

With extensive experience in research, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration, Prof. Roll will expand methodological support for clinical studies at the UMR. Interdisciplinary collaboration with various clinics and close ties to the Center for Clinical Trials (Koordinierungszentrum für Klinische Studien, KKS) are important for making research projects in Rostock more efficient. Prof. Roll also wants to bring in new teaching ideas to give medical students more tools for their scientific work and for the appraisal of medical publications.

Prof. Dr. Stephanie Roll was a senior researcher in the field of biometrics and epidemiology at the Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology, and Health Economics at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.

We received DFG funding (1 full-time researcher over 3 years), for our core topic of "In-silico evaluation of interventions for molecular health/rejuvenation, using omics data analyses by bioinformatics, and generative AI".  See the Intervention Analytics for Longevity for details.

"What I can say to the people that are starting to study aging now is that I think we are on the verge of a revolution, that the science of aging is maturing and becoming a medical science, and a discipline that every doctor will have to be competent in to practice high-level medicine."
